What is an APOD?

What is an APOD?

New product from Apple?

Sorry, Charlie.

Oh! I know.  A group of whales!

Nope.

No? It wasn’t Wales either?

Bad pun AND wrong again.

How about those things in the bottom of the pool in Cocoon?

Give up?

Yeah…what the heck is it? (more…)

Facts, Features and Benefits

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Facts, features and benefits are the basic blocks from which we build a sales presentation. These three things must be in every successful sales pitch whether it is for real estate, a new car or the latest version of the Flowbee. Without facts, features and benefits you cannot properly convey the importance of owning a machine that cuts your hair and vacuums your scalp in one easy step. How the ancient Greeks ever got civilization off the temple steps and onto to fast track without it is beyond me. When you start to think about the occurrences in your everyday life you realize that this simple selling principle is employed more often than the infommercial by Ron Popeil. (more…)

The best of both worlds

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Some people would call it the best of both worlds: own and enjoy your very own weekend and vacation getaway without having to pay the full costs of ownership. Many second home owners in Mount Washington Valley get a little help on their expenses by renting their properties out to short term vacationers when they are not in use. Renting your Conway, Madison, North Conway, Bartlett or Jackson home or condo can be done pretty easily and is a great way to get a little help on the bills. Depending on where you buy and how you market it, you can even earn enough to pay your taxes, condo fees, and sometimes a portion of your mortgage. (more…)

Buying a short sale? Here’s what to expect…

Monday, January 25th, 2010

If you follow the real estate market, you have undoubtedly noticed the words “short sale” appearing on more and more listings. Short sales occur when a seller owes more on his mortgage than he can sell his home for in a given real estate market. In order to sell the home without owing the balance of the mortgage out of pocket, the seller’s lender must agree to accept less than the full mortgage amount for the home. Lenders are willing to participate in short sales because sellers asking for a short sale are usually under financial stress. The chances are good that if he can’t sell, a seller might not continue to pay the mortgage and the home will go to foreclosure. While short sales often represent a good opportunity to get a lot of home for your money, they are not easy. Both the buyer and the seller need to have A LOT of patience. If you are a buyer thinking about a short sale, below is a typical short sale scenario. (more…)

Skiing Cranmore or Attitash or Black? Maybe Bretton Woods? Wildcat? Whereever you ski Mother Nature gave us a snow blessing just in time for the winter vacation. About three inches of new powder on the ledge (Glen) last night. Hope you brought your long johns or knickers. Knickers. There’s a word. (more…)

Summer weather, but we’re starting to think snow

Friday, August 21st, 2009

It is a balmy August afternoon in Mount Washington Valley, and the Saco is finally warm enough for the swimming to be pleasant. While we are definitely enjoying it, we are also starting to think about skiing. If making turns hasn’t crossed your mind recently, you will most likely think about it this weekend as you drive through the valley, where local ski shops are hosting huge tent sales. In the field next to Schouler Park, you will find the Ski and Snowboard Liquidators Tent Sale, and as you drive north on Route 16 the Joe Jones Tent Sale (across from the Wooden Soldier headquarters) is hard to miss. MARKET RECAP

The queue to climb aboard the recovery bandwagon continues to lengthen. The Wall Street Journal surveyed a gaggle of the best-and-brightest economists and found the majority of them believe the recession that began in late 2007 is over. In fact, many of these economists expect gross domestic product to grow 2.4% in the third quarter of 2009, spurred by inventory adjustments and strong demand for the “cash for clunkers” car-rebate program.
